The Rainmakers - Story Pyramids

Our shared book last week was called The Rainmakers by Ben Brown.  We really enjoyed the story about a Pukeko who wants to make her swamp more beautiful by stealing a rainbow.  The Keas are the guardians of the rainbows and when they find one missing they go on a mission to find it.

We did a story pyramid to summarise the story.  A story pyramid has 8 lines with one word on the first line, two on the second line...all the way to eight on the last line.

We hope you enjoy them!

Our fantastic maths graph

We are learning about statistics.  We are showing the information on a graph.First we wrote the question on a peice of paper.  Then collected the information and we made the tally graph.  After that everybody stood up and took their peice of paper and and shared what they found.  Then we used kidpix to make a bar graph to show what our favourite wild animal is in Room 16.  All our animals in our question were wild animals.  The animals are a Cheetah, Possum, Elephant and Giraffe.  The most popular animal was cheetah, the least popular was the giraffe.
Take a look at our graph...

Learning about Similies

This week we have been learning about similies.  A similie is a comparison between two things using 'like' or 'as'.  We are learning to use similies in our writing to make our stories more interesting for our audience.  We wrote some poems using similies.  Here are a few to share:

                              My Smile
My smile is as big as a piece of cucumber.
My smile is as big as a piece of apple.
My smile is as big as a shiny crescent moon.
My smile is as big as an elephant’s trunk.
My smile is as big as a super big curly wave.
My smile is as big as a long, slimy, scaly snake.
My smile is as big as two furry bats wings stuck together.
My smile is as big as a bent sky tower.

My Incredible Tremendous Special Smile

My smile is like the wind pushing the trees and it sounds like this, “swish, swish, swish.”
My smile looks like a colourful butterfly.
My smile is like a poisonous snake slithering across the jungle.
My smile is as bright as the sun.
My smile is as happy as it could ever be.
My smile is like the shape of half a heart facing towards the sun.
